The Spanish “feria” or town festival is one of the highlights of any town calendar and a great way for tourists to see the very best side of the town, meet the locals, try Spanish food and have a really great party. The ferias run throughout the year and it makes sense to find out the dates of your feria and let your past clients and friends know all about it via email, social media and of course word of mouth.
There is lots of information around, but it’s often in Spanish, so it’s a good idea to prepare a little information sheet about your local feria and then some bigger ones in surrounding towns which attract a lot of attention. We suggest that you add to this information about the festivities for Easter and Three Kings (6th January) so your tenants don’t miss out.
One of the biggest and most famous is the Malaga Feria which is usually in August and is a fantastic way to visit the city and see it at its very best. If you don’t already have bookings for this period and you’re on the Malaga train line, or an easy bus route into the city, then spread the word! Malaga is also famous for its Christmas lights, so this is a good way to promote off peak visits, if you’re close or well connected with the city via public transport. Please note that during these festivities traffic can be heavy and parking difficult which is why we recommend public transport.
Many of the ferias are in the summer when you’re likely to be busy with bookings anyway, but if you can link up with a local feria off peak that’s even better. How about Fuengirola’s fantastic Feria de los Pueblos at the end of April which celebrates the international community with food from around the world and traditional dancing, songs and culture from around the globe? They also have their main fair in October, so if you own property in Fuengirola you have two great excuses to boost your promotion. In September Ronda, Mijas and Torremolinos all celebrate their ferias and along with Fuengirola, San Pedro de Alcantara also celebrates in October so they all offer opportunities to boost your bookings. Even if your feria is in the summer, information about it is a great way to enhance your clients’ holiday experience so make sure they are informed.
